Silence

How can pen find paper

When support is ever waned?

How can words come again

When there is no validation gained?

What is friendship worth

When effort cannot be shamed?

A debate remains unvoiced,

In a civil war without cession.

Is the query asked impertinent—

A Congress not called into session?

Is silence the only choice,

An answer that begs vain question?

Why search for a yes

In the silence of beggars’ speech?

There is no batter apt

For an errant pitch out of reach.

The author is not engaged

By a lesson that does not teach.

Stop offering bribes.

Their investment has no yield.

The mighty intellects themselves

Cannot harvest their empty field.

The flick is not worth our time.

Let its tracks remain unreeled.

Sleep on in silence,

For solace is but a dream.

Affection, a purple illusion,

Engagement, an illusory seam.

Who can fathom a variation

When no one registers a theme?

Silence, to stop forever words.

Is that the noblest choice?

Would anyone even notice?

Would the silence not rejoice?

Does the lone option with merit

Lie in silence worthy of voice?
